It has been few months that I am doing some research on Lecture Capturing Systems. I will be posting more on this topic as we proceed with the pilot project. Let me share with you so far what I have learn. The key to a successful implementation of Lecture Capturing System at University Level is to carefully capture the needs for the Automated Lecture Capturing System. The areas you need to look at are
- Content
- Environment
- Software
- Hardware
- Streaming Service
- Archiving
- Integration with LMS, Student Information System,Timetabling System, etc.
So far we have evaluated following systems
- Panapto (http://panopto.com/)
- V-Cube Seminar (http://www.vcubewebcasting.com/)
- i-Studio (http://www.elearningminds.com/istudio-products/)
- Echo 360 (http://echo360.com/how-it-works/lecture-capture)
I found Educause website very help got tons of resources on lecture capturing system. The best resource on how to do Successful Strategic Planning for Your Lecture Capture Initiative could be access by clicking here .
On the other hand we could give a try to free mobile version of video capturing and streaming software like Bambuser . Which I have been using for many years. Most of the time I am using my smartphone to record. (you may have shaking video) to access my channel click here.
Jing is another free screen capture software. “Jing® is a computer service that lets you capture basic video, animation, and still images, and share them on the web.” by Techsmith.
If you have team which can install hardware and manage the recording you could safe a lot of amount by developing in house recording studio using these free software.
Will update this post on our experience of using automated lecture capturing system. Comments and suggestions are welcome.
